"Safeguarding God's Chldren," is a three-hour training session, which satisfies that portion of the diocesan requirement pertaining to Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Abuse of children within church settings. It is most appropriate for Youth Ministers/Advisors, Christian Education staff, Parish Clergy and Day Care/Day School/Parish Nursery staff. The training is required for all parish employees (secretaries are exempt) and for volunteers working in youth or people related ministries (Sunday school teachers are exempt ONLY if teaching during normal Sunday school hours in an area of the parish building frequented by others). The training program will include a review of the current diocesan Sexual Conduct policies, discussion of basic dynamics surrounding abuse and the secrecy that often prevents detection. Workshop leader is The Rev. Rob Morpeth, Deputy for Finance and Administration, Episcopal Diocese of Alabama. Registration opens 30 minutes before the training begins. The fee includes a copy of the diocesan policies and a certificate of participation. Registration forms should be received at the diocesan office, ATTN: Nanci Warner, no later than the day before the session selected. Advance registration is required.
